Tree and Shrub Maintenance Plan by the Round

Keeping your trees and shrubs healthy and pest-free is easier than ever with our six-round program. Each round is timed to feed your ornamentals and hold insects and disease down through the season. Thinking about a fragrant evergreen for the yard? See our guide to tea olive in North Carolina and which type survives our winters.

Round One (late winter to early spring)

  • Deep Root Fertilization

We inject a nitrogen-and-sulfur fertilizer 4 to 8 inches deep into the feeder-root zone, so your trees and shrubs are fed where the roots actually live.

Round Two (spring)

  • Insect Control
  • Disease Control
  • Systemic Drench

Timed to the start of spring insect and disease activity. The systemic drench protects for roughly 8 to 13 weeks, which holds insects down through summer with less spraying.

Round Three (late spring to early summer)

  • Insect Control
  • Disease Control

Pressure peaks here. A contact insecticide paired with a fungicide so plants do not take damage they cannot recover from.

Round Four (summer)

  • Mite Control
  • Insect Control
  • Disease Control

Insects and disease run on four-to-six-week cycles. A contact insecticide, miticide and fungicide keep your plants healthy through the heat of summer.

Round Five (late summer to early fall)

  • Leaf Spot and Mildew Prevention
  • Disease Control

A fungicide round that protects leaves through the late-summer disease window, when warm nights and heavy dew drive leaf spot and mildew.

Round Six (winter, before bud break)

  • Mite Control
  • Horticultural Dormant Oil

A dormant-oil and miticide application that smothers overwintering insects, mites, larvae, and eggs, for a cleaner, healthier plant come spring.

Tree and Shrub Pest and Disease Treatments

These services can be added to a regular tree and shrub care program when your lawn needs extra help with pests, turf health, soil improvement, or specific weed problems.

Scale on a Maple Leaf in North Carolina by Lawn Panther
Pest Control

Scale and Mealybugs

Waxy, immobile bumps on stems and leaf undersides — including crepe myrtle bark scale and tea scale — that suck sap, weaken the plant, and leave sticky honeydew and black sooty mold. We time treatment to the vulnerable crawler stage.

Aphids on Leaf in North Carolina by Lone Panther
Pest Control

Sap-Sucking Pests

Aphids, lace bugs, spider mites, whiteflies, and adelgids drain sap from the leaves, causing yellowing, fine stippling, and early leaf drop. Azalea lace bug is the big one here in NC. Left alone they multiply fast and invite sooty mold.

10 Caterpillar intent on eating leaves in North Carolina by Lawn Panther
Pest Control

Leaf-Chewing Pests

Bagworms, Japanese beetles, and caterpillars (webworms, tent caterpillars) chew foliage and can strip a shrub or evergreen in a hurry. We catch them early, before they defoliate the plant.

Powdery mildew on a leaf in North Carolina by Lawn Panther
Disease Control

Powdery Mildew

A white, dusty film on leaves and new growth — common on crepe myrtle, dogwood, and roses in humid weather. It disfigures and weakens the plant. We treat preventively and open up airflow.

Leaf spot on a Hawthorn shrub in North Carolina by Lawn Panther
Disease Control

Leaf Spot / Anthracnose

Brown or black spots, blotches, and early leaf drop on dogwoods, cherry laurels, and maples, driven by our warm, wet springs. We treat and clear the infected leaves that carry it over to next year.

boxwood blight on shrubs in North Carolina by Lawn Panther
Disease Control

Boxwood Blight

A fast, destructive disease — dark leaf spots, stem lesions, and rapid defoliation of boxwoods. It spreads easily, so early diagnosis and careful sanitation are the whole game.

Fire blight on an apple tree in North Carolina by Lawn Panther
Disease Control

Fire Blight

Blackened, scorched-looking shoots that curl over on pears, crabapples, and pyracantha. It kills branches back fast; we prune it out and treat to protect the healthy growth.

Lawn Panther Landscaping Hedge & Tree Trimming
Root rot on trees and shrubs in North Carolina by Lawn Panther

Root Rot

Root rot is a water problem before it is a disease problem. Phytophthora, the soil-borne organism behind most root rot, only takes hold when soil stays wet.

Needle tip blight in North Carolina by Lawn Panther

Needle / Tip Blight

Browning and thinning from the inside out on Leyland cypress, arborvitae, and Thuja. We treat the disease and address the crowding and moisture that let it take hold.

Clear Communication From Start To Finish

We keep it simple — clear updates, dependable scheduling, and a crew that calls ahead and answers the phone, from the first call to the final walkthrough. Licensed and insured — for the purrfect lawn. Bundle it with our tree and shrub pest control service, and explore our other maintenance plans: Bermuda and Zoysia and Fescue.

One Local Team

tree and shrub care and fertilization is one of several services we provide across Raleigh’s southern suburbs. Beyond tree and shrub care, we also handle lawn mowing, landscape maintenance, landscape lighting, tree and shrub planting, hedge and bush trimming, and lawn aeration — one local team instead of separate services. Tree and Shrub Care FAQs

Have questions about our tree and shrub care program? Here are a few of the most common things homeowners ask before getting started.

Lawn Panther provides tree and shrub care service in Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Apex, Cary, Raleigh, Angier, Willow Spring, Garner, and nearby communities. We can review your property, measure the lawn, and provide a fast quote for a tree and shrub care and fertilization program.

Lawn Panther is a local tree and shrub care and fertilization service focused on communication, detail, and responsive support. We do not treat every lawn with the exact same one-size-fits-all approach. We inspect your property during service, target visible problems when needed, and adjust treatments based on local weed pressure, turf conditions, and seasonal timing.

Our program includes scheduled pre-emergent and post-emergent weed treatments, along with fertilizer and soil conditioning. Applying pre-emergent at the proper times helps reduce weeds before they appear, especially crabgrass and poa annua. Weeds that do break through can be treated with post-emergent applications. Over the season, proper fertilization helps keep the turf thicker, which reduces the open space weeds need to get started. If your lawn has thin, damaged, or bare areas that need more than treatment, we may also recommend sod installation or landscape maintenance options.

Treatments are applied on a scheduled basis 6 times throughout the season. This ensures tree and shrub care and fertilization at the most effective times.

In most cases, we can give a quote within minutes over the phone. We use satellite measuring tools to review your property size and service area.

Results vary by lawn condition, season, and weed type. Many homeowners start to notice improved color after ongoing treatments. Healthier growth and fewer visible weeds also become noticeable. If you have just started with us, be patient. A full season of consistent treatments is usually needed to get the best control of crabgrass and other recurring weeds. After the first full year of treatments, you will be extremely satisfied, and your yard will become the Purrrfect Lawn.

The plan keeps your ornamentals healthy year-round with pest and disease control and seasonal care. To understand the problems we treat, see our guides on shrub and tree disease, sap-sucking pests, and leaf-chewing pests.

The tree and shrub care program starts at $500 a year — about $83 a visit across six timed rounds — then adds $30 per shrub and $75 per tree. Call or text 984-284-5399 for a free quote.
